For the love of Festivus : The Holiday for the rest of us

This video is a brief excerpt from “Festivus-The Holiday For the Rest of Us” by Allen Salkin from Warner books. It’s the holiday that eats other holidays for lunch.

On December 18, 1997, Americans watched the Seinfeld television Episode “Festivus”. New York Times writer Allan Sarkin is the well known book author of “Festivus, the Holiday for The Rest Of Us” which has a foreword by actor Jerry Stiller; who portrayed Seinfeld’s original character Frank Castanza, televisions’ “Father of Festivus”.  This non-denominational holiday that can be celebrated by politely airing grievances about the world or with those you have just had a Festivus dinner with. Of course some take polite to a lashing and spewing level; and go on to the Festivus feat of strength by body wrestling instead of thumb wrestling.  

According to Seinfeld comedy writer Daniel O’Keefe  and author of the authentic The Real Festivusthe inventor of the modern day Festivus Holiday is his father  Dan O’Keefe, Sr. He remarks in the books introduction that the television version is different than what he grew up with.
